Wiping second plate

The ink for printing should be mixed with a small part of powdered Magnesium Calcimate and printing oil which renders it easier to wipe.  I use tarlatan from which I have removed most of the starch gathered into a ball.

Cleaning the boarder

You should clean the edges of the plate with a dry clean rag.  The boarders should be filed down to a 45° to a depth of about 1.5 mm. so the plate will not cut the paper as you pass it through the press.

Placing the plate

I usually use a piece of dry paper identical to the ed- ition paper which has been centered to hold the plates. Four pin holes, one at each corner work well.

Placing the paper

The paper should be prepared the day before print- ing.  I usually prepare only the amount that I will use because paper which remains unused in the humid- ifier could very easily develop spotting from mould which can appear after years.  I wet the paper with a clean sponge and put it into a large plastic sack and under a weight for the night.
