This series is composed of mixed media graphite drawings with oriental calligraphic brushed watercolour, acrylic applied with occidental brushes and air brush, using graphite pencils and graphite sticks with eraser on Arches 140 lb., 100% cotton, hot pressed 12 1/4 x 16 1/8 inch (31 x 41 cm) watercolour block paper. |

Mary and I scheduled our trip to Cozumel Island off the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula to coincide with the ancient and contemporary ritual tour to Ix Chel's sacred temple gardens on the island, the pre-Lent island festival, Valentine's Day, and the full moon. |

The popular Maya Moon Goddess, Ix Chel ("She of the rainbows"); was patron of childbirth, healing, and the art of weaving. A Post classic shrine to Ix Chel on the island of Cozumel was much visited by Mayans, and was probably still active when the Spaniards first arrived in 1518-19. |
